Have a wonderful break. Don't forget some of you need to get a mission

Homework: Look through current newspapers, magazines, or online periodicals for an article about earthquakes, volcanoes or other geologic wonders. The article could be about current happenings, research, or any new findings.

Requirements of assignment:
* Read the entire article (make sure you understand it).
* Summarize the article in your own words and include your opinion about the research or event. How does the structure and movements of the earth affect people and the community in which they live?
* You must have a copy of the article attached to your summary. Be sure to ask permission before you rip or cut anything out of a magazine. You can bring in the whole magazine and I will make a copy of it.
* Must be in final draft form - on loose-leaf, in blue or black ink, spelling and grammar need to be checked - yes, you can type it.

Mercer Science

Today 5th hour went over chapter 3 section 2. 7th hour did not meet.
No homework.

Mercer Humanities

Today the students received their grades for the first 3 African
missions. The fourth is still being graded. The fifth and sixth
missions will be due after break on Monday the 12th and Thursday the
16th. After the 16th no late assignments will be accepted due to the
end of the card marking.
These African missions are very important to the final report card
grade.

Kettner's Science

Students were to turn in their take home quiz today. 7th hour finished watching the video, "Killer Quake" and 3rd hour will finish it tomorrow.

Today we talked about geothermal energy. We also located volcanoes on a
large map of the world that we have used in the past to locate
earthquakes.

Humanities

Today we attended a powerful assembly conducted by Dr. Michael Fowlin.
It was during the morning humanities class. Please ask you son or
daughter about it.
The 5th African mission is due this Wednesday or the Monday after
break.

Kettner's Science

We went over section 4-1 today. Students were given a take home test
that is to be turned in by Monday. We then started a discussion a
discussion about the causes/affects/risks of earthquakes.

Mercer Science

Today we started to watch a video on the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

brought in some wonderful creations and delicious food.

Today we completed a lab that showed us that convection currents also
happen in water. 7th hour was given worksheet 4.1 - this will be due on
Tuesday. 3rd hour will be getting this on Monday.

Today we shared the current event atricle in small groups and with the
whole class. Those that did not have an article today have an
alternative assignment due tomorrow.

Kettner's Science

Today we started learning about ocean currents. Tomorrow we will be
working on a lab to see if the a temperature difference in water will
affect currents. Plan on working on the lab set up when you enter class
tomorrow. There is no homework unless you did not complete the extra
credit from yesterday.

Today we read a news article about the violence in Nigeria. The
students then read about Nigeria in their book and they need to complete
the three main idea questions on page 333.
The 2nd African mission is due Friday.

March Healthy Lifestyle Activity Log 3/9

Physical Education
Students received their healthy lifestyle activity log for the month of
March. This month students are recording minutes of activity, sleep
hours and healthy foods they eat daily. The reflection question ask
students to write about an organization that uses physical activity to
raise money. Our March Miracle is an example of this type of activity.
This months activity log is due Wed., March 24.

Kettner's Science

traditional African dishes to sample.

Mercer Science

Today in the 5th hour class we went over earthquake hazzards and safety.
We also read about different devices that monitored movements along
fault lines.
In 7th hour we had a worksheet that was supposed to be filled out based
on the information we read about the day before (see 5th hour). Then as
groups they tried to develop plans for earthquake safety.
No homework.

Mercer Humanities

Today the students took the western Africa map quiz and they received
their new map, central and eastern Africa.
We went over the chapter 10 review.
The first African mission is due tomorrow - Friday.

Kettner's Science

Today we went over weather fronts. Students then worked on identifying
weather map symbols and reading wind speed symbols.

Homework: Complete the weather map symbols worksheet.

Today we spent most of the hour applying the IB term Approaches to
Learning. Approaches to Learning is an attempt to have students reflect
on how they learn. Part of the AtL is organization. I allowed them
time to think about and organize their African missions.

Kettner's Science

Students got their Chapter test back and then worked on a packet about
Air masses and Fronts. Use chapter 3 section 1 to complete the
assignment for tomorrow.

Third hour took their DS quiz and 7th hour took the Chapter test.
During both classes, students were told of any missing assignments they
have. You have until Wednesday to get the missing work in. After the
tests, students were given a crossword - this will be due on Wednesday.
