Austin - Course 3

Today we finished the quarterly assessment.  We started to work on lesson 9.1 (square roots).

Students jumped rope then had a choice of activity for the rest of the class period.

Homework
HEALTHY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COLLAGE
Objective:  Your task is to create a collage depicting what you think are healthy physical activities.  Your collage needs to be on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper.  Use pictures and  words cut out from magazines and/or newspapers to completely cover the sheet of paper. Your pictures and words cannot be larger than a playing card. You may not use multiple pictures of the same sport.

 

 Rubric for collage:

§         0 pts. = student show very little effort or did not turn in project.

§         5 pts. = student attempted project, 50% or more of paper is showing, project needs work

§         7pts.  = student covered 75% of the paper but not all, information meet the requirement of the activity.

§         10 pts. =student completely covered the sheet of paper with pictures and words that reflect absolutely the requirements of the activity.

 

COLLAGE is due on or before Monday, May 16th.

**Parents please remind your child to bring gym clothes to school on Monday and keep in their hall locker until needed for class.  This habit will help to alleviate the mark

Homework: All students needs to read pages 146-150 about Confucius.  Students need to write details about his life, his teachings, and his influence.

Technology

"Investigate" was due today, this section of the Design Folder should include the bibliography to date (more will be added as images are found and put into the final Power Point) and any notes taken on the college of choice.  Project sheet and rubric are below.

Mercer - Humanities

What we did today: Today students received my notes on Ancient Egypt (can also be found on the blog).  We went over the notes briefly.  I showed the students some interactive maps on early human migration, early human artifact remains, Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt.
 
Homework: Students need to gather information, like they have done for the previous two civilizations, on pages 108-113.  The information that they gather will help them answer the question "How did geography influence the development of Ancient India?"

Austin - Course 3

2nd and 4th hour
We worked on probability lesson (7.8).  Homework-worksheet 7.8, #1-11,13,15, 17-20 and a review for our chapter 7 test on Wednesday.  Students were given over 20 minutes to work in class.  TEST IS WEDNESDAY!!!
 
3rd hour
We went over lesson 7.8 and the chapter review.  TEST IS TOMORROW!!!

What we did today: Today we talked about the influence of geography on the development of Ancient Egypt.
 
Homework: 1st and 5th hours have a current event due tomorrow.

Technology

We took our Third Touch Typing Test today, students are really working hard at their touch typing now that it is tested...great job.  I kept the grading scale at 20 WPM again, not sure when the required WPM will go up to 25, just keep working and practicing.  Students then had the rest of the hour to work on their Investigate section of the Design Folder.
 
College Research Project due dates:
Investigate (research notes and bibliography) - Tuesday, April 26
Plan (rough draft and design brief) - Wednesday, May 4th
Final Presentations will begin May 17th

What we did today: Today we went over the notes on Mesopotamia and talked about the different empires that formed there. 
 
Homework: Students were given about a ten minute start on the homework tonight.  Students were to write down information that would help them answer the question "How did geography influence the development of Ancient Egypt?"  They are to use pages 70-75 and 82-87.

Austin - Course 3

We did a lesson on finding simple interest.  Lesson 7.7.  Students then worked in class on worksheet 7.7, # 13-16, 20,21.

Technology

Students worked on the "Investigate" section of their Design Folder today.  All research is to be hand written, no copying and pasting :) 
 
This is a project of threes; Select three of the listed topics, find three details for each topic, use/find three resources other than the three Mrs. Kennedy provided. 
 
Investigate (all notes and bibliography as evidence of the research done) is due for check on Tuesday, April 26th (E day).

They are:
1. Why did farming develop and how did it lead to more complex societies?
2. What role did geography play in the development of early civilizations?

MARCH QUESTION

  • The March Miracle event at Norup helps to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  The money raised helps fund cancer research for a cure. This is only one of many great causes. Your assignment for this month is to write a 50 word paper on an organization ( other than our March Miracle event) that uses physical activity to help fund-raise.  Include: the name of the organization; the activity participants do and why the money is raised. 
Paper is due on or before APRIL 11TH.  Paper should be of high quality, informative, neat and completed on time.

**Parents please remind your child to bring gym clothes to school on Monday and keep in their hall locker until needed for class.  This habit will help to alleviate the mark downs in gym class for not dressing out.
