What We Did Today
Students discussed Gorbachev and his role in the Soviet Union.  Students also received a compare/contrast sheet that they will use in preparation for a paper they will write comparing Stalin to Gorbachev.  Lastly, they started watching a video on the end of Soviet-style communism.

Today we held a discussion about the medicines found in the Rain Forest
and how important biodiversity is. Students then started working on an
open book test on Chapter 3. Those students that need more time

Mercer Science

We have started our new unit on Catastophic Events. Most of the work
will be done in class. There will not be a science book to take home,
however copies can be made if work is not completed in class. Students
were supposed to return a signed safety contract today. Please read them
over with your students. We are asking for empty 2 liter bottles for
class.

Students took the European/Soviet Union test today.
All students need to read pages 161 -165. On page 165 students need to
complete the entire section 3 assessment for Wednesday.

Groups worked on their invasive species posters in class.

Homework: Study for the vocabulary quiz. There will be 22 vocabulary
words from Chapter 2 sections 1-3 that will have to matched up to the
proper definitions. You will also have to be able to label 2 diagrams
(water cycle and carbon cycle).

This month students are recording their daily intake of junk food along
with their activity and sleep hours. Students were given a handout to
record on. The reflection question for this month: Based on your
recording of activity, junk food and sleep what are some changes you may

We continued our activity about invasive species in the Great Lakes.
Each group was given an invasive species to research. Each group will be
responsible to make a "Most unWanted" poster and a cartoon about their
species. All research should be complete before class tomorrow.

Chapter 2, section 1-3. The vocabulary terms can be found on page 79 in
the textbook. Students should make flash cards tonight to prepare.

The class discussed the following quote: "Unless we know where we have come from, we cannot know where we are going," and how it relates to the study of history.  They also brainstormed five significant events from their own lives, and put them on a timeline.  They discussed the questions historians ask about history, as well as why one might use a timeline to show historical events.  Finally, the class began watching (and taking notes on) a video about the history of Africa.

will consist of a vocabulary matching section, a true or fix-it section
