Technology

Today we were very busy, we had KB #18 to turn in, we had our second Keyboarding test, and we reviewed the research process.  Students were given an Internet Search (attached) that consists of six problems and should be properly cited using a website such as Easybib.com.  This assignment is due Tuesday, April 12th.

  • The March Miracle event at Norup helps to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  The money raised helps fund cancer research for a cure. This is only one of many great causes. Your assignment for this month is to write a 50 word paper on an organization ( other than our March Miracle event) that uses physical activity to help fund-raise.  Include: the name of the organization; the activity participants do and why the money is raised. 
Paper is due on or before APRIL 11TH.  Paper should be of high quality, informative, neat and completed on time.

**Parents please remind your child to bring gym clothes to school on Monday and keep in their hall locker until needed for class.  This habit will help to alleviate the mark downs in gym class for not dressing out.

What we did today: Students turned in their old books and received new ones.  We examined some maps of ancient civilizations and learned about them through analyzing their geography.
 
Homework: Students are to read page 10-13 in their new book and make a spider map about the different tools used to help us understand the past.  This is due Friday.

What we did today: Today we practiced the Asia map.  We watched the CNN student news about the tragedy in Japan and had a discussion after.  Students began to work on the next assignment.
 
Homework: 2nd, 4th, and 6th hours have a current event due tomorrow.  All students must read pages 506-509 and complete the section assessment on page 509 for Wednesday.

Technology

Students started class completing any missing assignments or turning in Keyboarding 17 (due today).  We then took 15 minutes for our first Typing Test!  Using typingtest.com students took multiple 3 minute tests on the topic of their choice.  We then took the best score.  Grades are awarded according to accuracy and speed.
 
We then moved on to our Online Research Lesson "Making Search Decisions and Identifying High Quality Sites".  There are many misleading and incorrect "facts" on the web and we need to be able to decipher the truth.
 
Our next meeting is a half day so I will only see hours 1,2, & 3.  I hope to see you all at Parent Teacher Conferences.

Students completed any missing assignments and/or Keyboarding 17.  We continued our lessons on online searching.  We learned the best way to use a Keyword Search and turned in our findings.  Our next meeting (Monday, March 14) will be our first Keyboarding Test.  Students can practice by covering their hands and going to typingtest.com as this is the site we will use for the test.  The goal is 25 wpm with 0 errors!

Students were given Keyboarding 17 and the whole hour to work on missing assignments and catch up.  I am at meetings at Oakland Schools, so students can print any work to be turned in and I will enter it in the gradebook on Monday.

Students learned the finer points of online research and how to get the most out of the internet.  We reviewed the difference between directories and search engines and how to use each in our research projects.
